Venue & Travel

Big Stitch Events are held at the Magna Science Museum in South Yorkshire. The venue is completely unique and has fantastic facilities. Magna used to be a one of many Steel factories that the Sheffield area is famous for; it is now a charity run Science museum that is utilised for educational and commercial events.

The address is: Magna Way, Rotherham, South Yorkshire, UK, S60 1FD

The venue has 300 guest parking spaces including disabled spaces and full wheelchair access throughout. Parking is free for anyone attending the event there is also loading access for vendors.

Public Transport

For those of you travelling by public transport, the closest train stations are Sheffield, Meadowhall and Rotherham. All of these stations are a short drive to the venue. Although there are regular buses between the stations and the venue, we highly recommend using a taxi. Although there are usually taxis available outside the train stations, the local comapany is Veezu Sheffield: 0114 2393939. Taxis can be booked in advance.

Accommodation

There is no accommodation at the venue however, we highly recommend the Holiday Inn Rotherham which is a short 5 minute drive from the venue and is 2 minutes drive from J33 of the M1. This is a recently refurbished hotel with an onsite coffee shop, bar and restaurant, free parking for guests and free gym & swim access for guests. To book visit https://www.hirotherhamsheffield.co.uk/ or call 0333 320 9348.

Dining

During the event you will be provided with a delicious buffet lunch along with morning and afternoon snacks. There will be hot drinks provided throughout. You may also bring snacks and drinks with you. Your evening meal is not included however there are multiple venues around you that offer delicious options. For those that want a variety, I highly recommend heading to Meadowhall shopping centre which is a short 5 minute journey. There you will find a range of big chain restaurants such as Nandos, Wagamamas, Five Guys, TGI Fridays, Wetherspoon and many many more. For those not wanting to leave the venue, you can also order food into Magna and utilise our catering section.

Places to Visit

The Big Stitch events are always held over a weekend. For those visiting from outside of the Yorkshire area, we highly recommend staying a day or two before and after the event to explore the area. We have fantastic museums, theatres, shopping experiences and little gems such as the oldest house in Sheffield. Bishops house is from the 16th century and is worth a visit if you have a spare hour or two.

We also have some fabulous craft stores a short distance from the venue which are well worth a visit. I highly recommend visiting The Foundry Works at Parkgate, Rotherham. The store has stunning yarn and stitching products. There is also a large space for you to sit and craft whilst you are there and you can meet some of the local makers. For more information on the store vist: https://thefoundryworks.co.uk/
